If you think that you would like to join Hamwic, you will need to fill out the Application form and return it to the Office (see Contact us for details). The Housing Group will then contact you with further information or an interview date.

The interview is an opportunity to find out more about Hamwic, and importantly for us to find out what qualities you could bring to our Co-operative.

If your interview is successful and you still wish to join, you will be sent a letter inviting you to our next General Meeting where your prospective membership will be put to a vote. All existing members will be told about your Application details, and we will be asked to vote whether you would be a suitable Co-operative member. We will be given details of any previous rent arrears or your past history so we can make an informed decision.

What happens next?

You will be informed by letter whether your Application for Membership has been successful or not. If you have been successful you will be invited to buy a Share Certificate in Hamwic. This will cost £1.00. On receipt of your share you will become a Managing Director of Hamwic and hold equal voting rights.

You should be prepared to take on the responsibilities of a Managing Director and you are required by our Standing Orders to fulfil your obligations as a member of the Co-operative. Such as regular attendance at General Meetings, particiaption in Sub-Groups, payment of Rent etc.

Failture to meet your obligations can mean expulsion from the Co-op.

You will also be provided with a Hamwic Information Pack which includes all the information you will need to learn more about the Co-operative and our rules and procedures.
